Frequently asked questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
- No. Page numbering runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.
- Can I choose where the numbers appear?
- Yes. Six positions are available: bottom-center, bottom-right, bottom-left, top-center, top-right, and top-left.
- What number formats are available?
- Three formats: plain numbers (1, 2, 3…), 'Page N' labels (Page 1, Page 2…), and 'N of Total' (1 of 10, 2 of 10…).
- Can I start numbering from a page other than 1?
- Yes. Use the 'Starting number' field to begin at any number. This is useful if you're working on a chapter that starts at page 45 of a larger document, for example.
- Will the numbers overwrite existing content?
- The numbers are placed near the edge (24pt margin from each side), which is typically blank space in most documents. However, if your PDF already has content in that area, the numbers may overlap it.
