X (Twitter) Header Size: 1500×500 — How to Crop It Right

The X (Twitter) header is a wide 3:1 strip with your avatar and handle layered on top of it, so parts of the image are always covered. Crop to the right size and position your content around the UI and it looks deliberate.

The correct X / Twitter header size

  • Resolution: 1500 × 500 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 3:1
  • Formats: JPG, PNG, GIF

How to crop your header

  1. Open the crop tool.
  2. Drop in your image.
  3. Set a 3:1 ratio (or crop directly to 1500×500) and frame it.
  4. Download — done in your browser, nothing uploaded.

If your source is smaller than 1500×500, upscale it first so the banner doesn't look soft.

Work around the overlays

  • Your avatar covers the lower-left corner.
  • Your name and handle sit along the bottom edge.

Keep logos, text, and faces in the upper-right and center. Avoid the bottom-left quarter entirely.

Tip

If the finished header is large, the image compressor trims the file size so your profile loads fast.

Frequently asked questions

What size is an X / Twitter header?
1500 × 500 pixels, a 3:1 aspect ratio. Upload at exactly this size so the banner isn't stretched or cropped unexpectedly.
Where does the profile photo sit on the header?
Your circular avatar overlaps the lower-left of the header, and your name/handle sit along the bottom. Keep logos and text in the upper-right and center so nothing important is covered.
What formats does X accept?
JPG, PNG, and GIF. A 1500×500 image is small, so file size is rarely a problem — compress only if needed.
