How to Convert PNG to JPG for eBay
You're building an eBay listing, you try to add a photo you've got as a PNG, and the upload stalls, times out, or just refuses to go. Even though eBay technically allows PNG, big PNG files are a frequent cause of failed or painfully slow uploads. Converting to JPG first makes the whole thing reliable.
How to convert PNG to JPG for eBay
Use QuickWand's free PNG to JPG converter, which runs in your browser with nothing uploaded to a server.
- Open the PNG to JPG converter.
- Drag your
.pngitem photos into the drop zone, or click to browse. eBay allows up to 24 photos per listing, and you can convert them all in one batch. - Pick JPG as the output format and set quality to around 90%. Keep the longest side at roughly 1,600 pixels for sharp zoom.
- Click Convert, then download each file or use Download all (.zip).
Why JPG is the safer bet on eBay
eBay actually accepts a long list of formats — JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, and AVIF — with a 12 MB size limit and a recommended resolution of about 1,600 x 1,600 pixels. But just because a format is allowed doesn't mean it uploads smoothly. eBay itself recommends JPEG for most product photos, and there's a good reason: a JPG is far smaller than the same photo as a PNG, so it uploads quickly and reliably even on a phone or a weak connection.
PNG is designed for logos, screenshots, and graphics with transparency — not photographs. Saving a product photo as PNG just produces a bloated file that's more likely to choke the uploader.
A note on transparent PNGs
If your PNG has a transparent background, converting to JPG will fill those transparent areas with a solid background because JPG cannot store transparency. For an eBay item photo that's usually preferable anyway — a clean, flat background looks more professional in search results. Just keep your original PNG if you need the cut-out version elsewhere.
